Thursday Things (Random, March 2012)

My house is magically cleaner when I am crazy busy. Chalk it up to a personality that thrives on procrastinating and the ensuing pressure that comes from having too much on my plate.

----------------------------------------------------------

Speaking of which... my house is currently the cleanest it has been since Jack came home. I also am juggling several new freelance projects with tight deadlines. This is my sweet zone and I love being extra busy during Jack's nap times.

Granted I didn't go to bed until after midnight, four nights in a row, last week. That caught up with me on the weekend and I spent Saturday taking long naps when Jack napped. You know, instead of working like a mad woman.

----------------------------------------------------------

I ordered gray and white striped curtains from West Elm for Jack's nursery {actually a cotton shower curtain I am converting into regular curtains}. So excited that they are here. Now to find the right curtains {or fabric} for our bonus room window.

----------------------------------------------------------

I have been looking for a case for my Kindle. I was thrilled to find one at The Pleated Poppy's Etsy shop. It happens to be made with the Michael Miller Bicycle fabric that I used in Jack's nursery. Love.

I am finally joining the 21st century and getting a smart phone this weekend. Though we still won't have texting. So for the love, please don't text us unless it is an EMERGENCY. I can't wait to join the world of Instagram – like I don't take enough photos of Jack or the food I cook...

Living for Today

The problem with living for today is that I am waiting for tomorrow. This puts me in a difficult place. On the one hand, I am beyond ready to move forward with my life in Chattanooga. On the other hand, I am still {6+hours away} in Charlotte and there is no official end in sight.

Last year, I really wanted to start growing my own vegetables. But I put it off. I was worried that Daniel would get a job offer and we would have to sell our house and move. Because I put it off, I didn't grow that garden. Now it is a year later and Daniel does have a job but I still don't have a garden because I am waiting for our house to sell.

Last year I also had the opportunity to participate in a triathlon with a friend. Even though I really wanted to participate in the race, I opted out because 1) I felt guilty spending money while Daniel was unemployed and 2) I thought there was a chance that Daniel would get a job offer and we would have to move. The money part makes sense, but Daniel didn't get his job offer until the end of December and didn't start work until March 1. And I still haven't participated in a triathlon.

So... how long should you put off your life? There will always be what ifs to be concerned about and I don't want to live in the world of woulda, coulda, shoulda.

Another problem with waiting for job offers {or houses to sell or the right one to marry or babies...} is that these periods of waiting offer no definitive time frame. You are hoping things will work out, but you have no clue how long it will take. Chances are that it WILL take longer than you hope and, in the meantime, you need to keep living your life.

So while I continue to wait for this phase of my life to transition into the next, maybe I should take up gardening in pots {since I don't want to dig up the yard} or maybe I need to find a triathlon and go ahead and commit to doing something for myself.

What about you? What are you putting off for tomorrow?

Busy... busy... busy...

So I am procrastinating. I have a ton of work to do, but I am sitting here, catching up on facebook instead.

I have a powerpoint presentation to create for one of the partner's in my company to pitch at an investor's meeting at 10 a.m. Monday morning. I have midterm tests to create for the three classes that I teach. AND I also have a freelance project that I am doing for a friend... I really had not anticipated being this busy.

It is a good thing that I love what I am doing, because I constantly seem to be doing something.

Procrastination

One of my worst habits has to be procrastinating. I don't know why I can't get motivated - even if it is something I truly love to do. I think part of the problem is that I enjoy working under intense pressure and in an effort to create that pressure, I let things build up until the last minute and a deadline that forces me to complete my project.  My teaching experience begins in two days and I cannot seem to get my syllabus done. I have all of the ideas for my projects in my head, but I need to get them on paper for the students AND, ideally, I need to get a lot of the information online as well...

Word for the Year: Reframe

For fifteen years now, I have been starting my year with intention. Last year I hoped to find contentment in my life, and I believe I did. T...
