Moores Go West: Day 3 (Colorado)

We made it to Denver after driving 1,300 miles in two days. We can now relax for a minute. This morning we enjoyed a little trail at Prospect Park that adjoined our campground. The kids are hilarious and so excited about what little snow is here. They have no idea what they are in for. We are headed further into the mountains today, but will not be driving nearly as far.

Leaving Denver we saw these road signs announcing a winter warning andmore snow. Colorado was working overtime to make sure our kid were happy as we headed west on I-70. The boys are overjoyed at the falling snow and couldn’t wait until we arrived at our next campsite.

When we were originally planning this trip, it was supposed to be a southwest trip and we were going to see one of my best friends from high school when we passed through Texas. That didn’t happen. Now we are headed to the Northwest and her family was skiing on Colorado while we passed through. So we couldn’t pass up a chance to drive up to their ski resort for an evening of late night sledding. We had to drive through white out conditions to get there, but it was so worth it!

Day 3 of our trip had us waking up in Denver. Urban campgrounds are not our fave. It was crowded and someone stole $30 worth of leveling blocks from us. We did enjoy exploring Prospect Park next to the campground. After we washed some laundry and took showers, we made our way to Rifle Falls, attempting to outrun winter weather advisories on our way. The kids were enamored with the snow. We stopped at a rest area where the building housing the bathrooms was covered in snow. Rifle Falls was more remote than we anticipated. We were the only people camping there. When we went to unhook our camper, we realized our tongue jack wasn’t working. Daniel had to raise and lower it manually. This trip is turning into a comedy of errors with the random things that have gone wrong. After setting up camp, we headed back to Snowmas (Aspen area) to see my good friend and her family at their ski resort. We visited and the kids had fun sledding in the dark. We are up to 1,600 miles of driving so far.
